Chelsea are rumoured to be contemplating a double attack on RB Leipzig to sign prolific forward Christopher Nkunku and defender Josko Gvardiol.

For some time, there has been speculation about their interest in Gvardiol, with Thomas Tuchel preparing for life without Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

Meanwhile, Manchester United is interested in signing Nkunku, with interim manager Ralf Rangnick willing to bring his former player to Old Trafford.

However, Manchester United may face heavy competition for Nkunku, with Sky Sports Germany suggesting that Tuchel is interested in signing both the Frenchman and Gvardiol from RB Leipzig this summer.

Both Premier League sides could face stiff competition for Nkunku, with RB Leipzig desperate to maintain their star forward for next season.

Nkunku is under contract with the club until 2024, having contributed 54 goals in 50 games across all competitions this season.

'Nkunku will be our player next year,' Leipzig president Oliver Mintzlaff recently told Sky Sports, according to the Independent.

However, Mintzlaff went on to say that "in football, nobody is unsellable."

When Nkunku arrived from Paris Saint-Germain for just over £11 million in 2019, Rangnick was the club's manager. Rangnick, on the other hand, only has one game remaining in command before becoming an advisor, with Ajax manager Erik ten Hag taking his position.

Meanwhile, Rudiger and Christensen, who are both poised to leave Chelsea at the conclusion of their contracts this summer, are substantially influencing Chelsea's pursuit of Gvardiol.

Real Madrid have signed German international Rudiger to a long-term contract, while Christensen is expected to join their Spanish rivals Barcelona.

Tuchel will have his job cut out for him in the summer transfer window after losing two centre-backs.

Gvardiol is considered to be a key priority, though he is one of many prospective replacements on Tuchel's list, which includes Sevilla's Jules Kounde, PSG defender Presnel Kimpembe, and Atletico Madrid's Jose Gimenez.

Chelsea have been unable to make any additions since Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK government for his strong relations to Russian President Vladimir Putin during the continuing conflict in Ukraine. The news that Todd Boehly's consortium has signed a deal to buy the club from Abramovich over the weekend has given them hope that they will be able to concentrate on fresh signings before the summer transfer market opens.

Chelsea said in a statement released early Saturday morning that the transaction should be finalised by the end of May.
